Last week Tock and I celebrated 10 years of marriage!  That’s a pretty big deal considering the average marriage in America lasts only 8 years.  So, in the very wee hours on the morning of our 10th anniversary, we (very) quietly kissed our 3 kids goodbye and hopped on a plane to Turks & Caicos for 5 days.  It was A M A Z I N G!  I have to be honest, at first we didn’t know what to do with the freedom and I was feeling that maternal tug, leading me towards the phone,  to call home and check on them every 7 minutes.  And then, something amazing happened–it was called The Grace Bay Club signature rum punch cocktail.  I’m kidding (sort of).  What happened was we let ourselves just be ourselves for the first time in a very long time.  We weren’t parents, and we weren’t expected to do a single thing but relax and just be with each other.  We had a blast- we hung out at the beach, the pool, snorkeled (saw an octopus), drank rum punch at 10:30 in the morning, took siestas (because doing nothing is exhausting!) ate amazing food, rode bikes around the island in search of Turks rum, and genuinely enjoyed each others company.  I will never forget this trip. Ever.

You would think this weeks picture would be a portrait of rum punch, right?  Nah. It’s another self portrait, taken with my iphone so the quality isn’t great and I didn’t even attempt to do any edits.  I love it anyway because I remember the moment we took it, and how my heart was still missing my kids so much but how I was loving being right there with Tock just a little bit more.
