I talk about trying to notice the little things a lot. I know my dad doesn’t like when I cut heads out of a picture but maybe it’s because he doesn’t understand exactly why I do it. If I had included Oliver’s head in this picture, that’s where your eyes would go. You’d notice the freckles sprinkled across his nose and his endearing smile (or maybe he wouldn’t be smiling). You’d miss what I’m seeing right now– the little details that maybe only his mother or father would pick up on– and details are important.
Do you see that he’s wearing a collared shirt? Probably not– as he’s tucked the collar in because he hates how they feel on his neck. What about those buttons that don’t match up– did you notice those? I notice that he’s not sitting yet, because he’s about to build his burger with everything on his plate. I know that he’s holding two different kinds of fries in his hand– a waffle fry and a sweet potato fry. He’s not sure if he should add the sweet potato fry to his burger because he doesn’t really love those but that waffle fry is definitely making the cut.
All of these details are important to me because they help to tell a little piece of Oliver’s story, which of course is a huge part of my own.
The details are in your photos too. You just have to know where to look.
