And just like that, another season of sailing at WHYC has come to an end. Next summer will find Oliver rigging up his Opti (the Mini Mac) and navigating the seas on his own. I’m not a sailor. I did take sailing lessons for 2 summers way back when, but really don’t think sailing is one of those skills that is ‘just like riding a bike.’ I actually do remember a few things– like how to put the batons in the sail, and that you should pull the centerboard up in low tide when sailing back into the harbor, and that sharks will always swim under your boat in a figure 8.
